zTips Newsletter for Business Partners

August 2009

A note from Steve Early, System z Software Business Unit Executive

The second quarter and first half of the year are now behind us, and the record will show our Business Partners turned in a very positive performance during 2Q09.  The revenue generated by our Business Partners was up 94%, in effect doubling the first quarter performance.  From a brand perspective, the Information Management and Application Development tools led the way followed closely by Tivoli solutions.  Overall, a balanced performance.  Sincere thanks for your efforts -- they made a difference.

We're now into the second half of the year, and we cannot afford to rest.  With many of us taking vacation this quarter, it is important to identify 3Q09 opportunities now so they can be closed by the end of September.  Take advantage of the System z Software sales plays, including the new kits on the System z Solution Editions (article below), and offers designed to help your clients succeed during these challenging economic times.  Work with clients, particularly those in the Public Sector, to utilize economic stimulus funding and address key business priorities.  Most importantly, leverage the momentum you've established to position us all for continued success during the second half of the year.

Good luck and good selling.

Steve

New IBM Tivoli Security Software Delivers 'Holistic' Approach to Identity and Access Management
New security software tackles the fragmented state of the identity and access governance market with a single solution that helps organizations administer, secure, monitor and certify user identities and their access to applications, information and systems.

Organizations must be able to control who has access to what information across entire IT and data center environments including systems, devices, data and applications, while also reporting compliance with industry and government regulations. Until today, the identity and access management governance market has been disjointed, with products only addressing individual problems. Check it out!

  • August 18 Teleconference
  • Join us for this complimentary teleconference to learn how the IMS cloning Tool for z/OS® automates, simplifies and speeds up IMS system cloning and database refresh operations while reducing administration and processing costs. Today’s storage-based fast replication facilities allow IMS data to be copied instantaneously, and without using host CPU or I/O resources.

Don’t reinvent the wheel – Pull out the reusable business rules from your legacy application portfolio

  • August 26 Teleconference
  • Detailed insight into how your complex applications support the core business processes would provide understanding that could increase both developer productivity and accuracy, and enable fact based application modernization decisions to be made. Application Portfolio Management products analyze source code, and therefore provide a very direct benefit to developers, analysts, and architects. Developers typically experience a significant productivity gain in analysis activities when using offerings such as Rational Application Analyzer and Rational Transformation Workbench. But there’s more - companies need enterprise-wide tools like this to support and accelerate modernization products. If one can understand code with little or no documentation and their relationships across the enterprise; discover the business rules to migrate to a new platform, create new components due to divestiture, or find duplicate/redundant code as part of a merge; then there are cost savings to the organization that can be achieved.
  • This insight enables global IT organizations to identify, prioritize and execute development activities that re-align applications with business goals. Join us for this teleconference and discover hidden business logic, govern those uncovered business rules, and move towards reuse of proven business rules throughout the development lifecycle. Isolation of identified business rules into standalone programs encourages reuse and accelerates the path to SOA making your business more flexible with the ever changing demands placed on it.
