Top Stories IBM Cloud Academy for education
IBM is launching a new global forum for educators, researchers and information technology (IT) personnel from the education industry to pursue cloud computing initiatives, develop skills and share best practices for reducing operating costs while improving quality and access to education. First participants include 17 educational institutions worldwide.

Serious games for smarter skills and smarter learning
"Gamers" are not just adolescent boys playing video games on the Xbox. Game mechanics and game-based learning are being integrated into everyday applications for a good reason. While students remember 10 percent of what they read, their retention jumps to almost 90 percent if they do something themselves. Find out more about the future of learning.
Apply for an IBM X10 Innovation Award
The 2010 IBM X10 Innovation Awards will recognize a select group of academic research and curricular development activities in the area of computing at scale on cloud computing platforms based on the X10 programming language. This is an ideal opportunity for academic partners to learn, teach and help develop an eco-system built around a modern, open-source suitable for developing applications for parallel architectures. The program will sponsor the development of libraries and application frameworks using X10 for cloud-based applications, as well as other areas of interest, to further develop the X10 ecosystem.
Large companies attest mainframe skills lead to a safe career
The mainframe remains a core system for high volume, high transaction processes, particularly those used in large financial services companies. As a result, mainframe work is a very safe career. Over 600 colleges, universities and high schools around the world are participating in the IBM mainframe academic program. Consider adding mainframe skills to your curriculum.
Universities, IBM, Google and NSF collaborate in cloud program
Researchers from IBM, Google, the National Science Foundation (NSF) and several universities are sharing information on their respective cloud computing projects as part of the CLuE (Cluster Exploratory) program. NFS has granted funding to academic researchers to explore large data applications, resulting in the CLuE program and a joint Google/IBM Academic Cloud Computing Initiative.

Training, education and more Java development 2.0: Easy EC2
Provisioning an EC2 instance for hosting a Java Web application is a snap. In this article, Andrew Glover shows you how to quickly create a CRUD Web application and run it on the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). If you are just getting started with EC2, you can get introductory information in Glover's earlier article "You can borrow EC2 too".

Write portable applications with the Simple Cloud API
Through a collaborative effort by IBM, GoGrid, Microsoft, Nirvanix, Rackspace and Zend, there is a new API that enables you to write portable code that can interoperate with multiple cloud vendors while using services specific to a particular one. This article provides a high-level overview of the API and its goals.
New demo: IBM Rational Functional Tester for Web Apps
This demo shows how you can use Rational Functional Tester to create test automation scripts that validate an online web application system. Its script generation capabilities enable you to produce a re-usable test that can run against all subsequent iterations of the web application system, and the visual storyboarding techniques eliminate the need to write any test scripts.
Register for a CICS Integration Workshop
Attend a free, 3-day CICS workshop that uses a combination of lectures and labs to show the various CICS connectivity options and the technical implications of configuration, transaction processing, and security. This workshop will also help you understand how these technologies fit into the current business environment.
